VIOLENT RADICALIZATION- The term `violent radicalization' means the process of adopting or promoting an extremist belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change.
HOMEGROWN TERRORISM- The term `homegrown terrorism' means the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.
IDEOLOGICALLY BASED VIOLENCE- The term `ideologically based violence' means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual's political, religious, or social beliefs.
These definitions are broadly worded so the final definition becomes whatever the administration chooses that definition to be. The bill targets American citizens as a specific group. To date the mainstream media has been silent as to the intent or purpose of this bill and its implications for every American. The bill is an extension of past bills brought forth in reaction to the attacks of 9/11.
Under the vague, open ended, and broad based definitions of this bill any person offering criticism of the government may find themselves in violation. One may argue the bill included language that says one must be violent in intent. But violence is not defined by any measure whatever. Is the suggestion the President should be impeached a violation? Is encouraging other people to think the same or to act toward impeachment a violation? Is a sit-in on the streets of Washington, DC, acceptable or is such peaceful protest to be considered illegal now? What protest actions may be found acceptable these days?
The bill aims in specific detail at the internet saying
The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens.Once this bill gains final approval and is signed by the President no person using the internet for any purpose may any longer be assured of freedom of speech. Big Brother will be watching under the legal auspices of HR 1955.
This bill is an addition to the already established domestic programs of the FBI. In addition there are intelligence agencies already monitoring the connection of foreign and domestic nationals. Even farther the Justice Department has a wide range of laws and Presidential signing orders which are being broadly applied to domestic affairs.
This bill was put forward by Jane Harman, Democrat, CA-36 and passed by a Democratic controlled House. This bill has not yet passed the Senate. We must act and act now to insure failure in that august body lest we see more of our dear freedoms erased forever. If we continue to see bills of this order coming from our supposed liberal base we as a nation are in deep trouble. I fear for our nation's future.
Peace to one and all.

Be very careful what you say or think these days. One never knows what Big Brother will be doing next with or without our knowledge. As we continue to see our basic rights of free speech eroded trouble is on the horizon. When ever will this end and sanity return to our great nation?
Peace.
Thanks, Jerry. This bill is indeed troubling. It provides no definition of force or violence and would provide to the people NO ALTERNATIVE to meekly going along with the dictates of government. As far as I can tell, it is specifically directed against acts of civil disobedience and is intended to upgrade the penalties against those acts. After all, there are already plently of laws against violence, as many as could possibly be needed. But what laws there are against civil disobedience have been relatively moderate. This law, along with the law that was passed not long ago that defined any and all demonstration against abuse of animals as terrorism if it could be construed as harming business operations, are intended, as far as I can see, to up the ante to the point where non-violent resistance to fascism is virtually impossible.
Remember, Ghandi (I think) and MLK spent a few days in jail. Dorothy Day the same. The goal here, as I see it, is to make sure that no MLK ever arrises again, for he shall spend his life in jail if he even raises his head one inch from the meekly bleating herd.
And our Dems passed this. Eagerly. I'm sorry, Jerry, but in my opinion, anyone voting Dem in 2008 is out of their minds. I'll vote for you and maybe for Gretchen Clearwater, but that's probably as far as I will go in terms of voting Dem.
fillip,
From what continues to happen in DC these days one might think the entire Congress has lost their collective mind. Do those people not see the ramifications of bills like this one? Can they not see themselves or their children being punished for speaking their minds in a free and open forum?
Given the passage of previous laws including Patriot I and II and the Military Commisssions Act we have more than plenty of restriction on our civil rights. The thing we need to accomplish now is restoration of lost rights not further loss. Pretty soon we may all be in trouble for what we say to our friends and neighbors let alone what we share on the internet. This is beginning to be frightening beyond belief.
Thanks for your support. I do understand your position. I wish there were some reasonable alternative to working within the system.
Peace, Jerry
You said it, Jerry. They are acting like they have lost their minds. WE ALREADY HAVE LAWS AGAINST VIOLENCE!!! Lots of them. So what's the point of this law? I think it's to give law enforcement forces a free hand to brutalize protestors and to make sure that no Martin Luther King or Ghandi or Mandela ever happens again.
I think there IS a reasonable alternative. But I recognize and respect your decision to take the path you have.
fillip,
It is nice we can have such deep divides and still regard one another with respect. Too bad our government can't do that these days.
The administration is all about insuring the absence of dissent. Today is all about being sheeple led by the powerful elite. The people must take back their place in this country. We need to let our Congress critters know we are not taking this stuff without a fight.
Peace, Jerry
I'm working on a sheeple drawing - hopefully I'll be able to pass it by you in a day...
fillip,
Wonderful. I can hardly wait! Patience is not my long suit in waiting for your fine drawings.
Peace, Jerry
Thanks Jerry. Sadly, until I feel it, I can't draw it.
fillip,
I know that place in the mind and in the heart. All must come together the right way. It will happen or not. Either way what is to be will be. And that is good.
Peace, Jerry
Right on.
fillip,
I thought you of all people would understand that thinking. I am happy you saw my meaning. We think a lot alike in our creative sections most times.
Peace, Jerry
That place is the one thing I trust!
fillip,
That inner being is a power greater than any on earth. It is good to trust and lean on that strength.
Peace, Jerry
Well said.
